Speaking at FinCon 2022: How Freelancing Allows You To Focus On Family

One of the activities that I love the most is attending conferences and meeting new people. And it’s even better when I get to speak about topics that are important to me. This year, I’m speaking at FinCon 2022 in Orlando about freelancing and how it has enabled me to focus on my family. It’s a topic that is near and dear to my heart, and it is exciting to be able to share my story and tips on a panel with some of my friends and colleagues.

What is FinCon?

FinCon is one of my favorite personal finance conferences to attend. The conference is where “money & media meet” to help “personal finance creators and brands create better content, reach their audience, and make more money.” Other than 2015, I’ve attended FinCon every year since 2014, and I’ve learned so much along the way, both for my sites and when working with clients.

The friends, connections, and lessons from FinCon are what helped to inspire me to leave the corporate world and freelance full-time. So, it’s the topic has come full circle with the opportunity to speak at FinCon to show others how they can realize the work-life balance they’ve been dreaming of.

When is FinCon 2022?

FinCon 2022 is happening September 7th through 10th in Orlando, Florida. Conference check-in starts on Wednesday with masterminds, meet-ups, and the freelancer marketplace happening on the first day. Interesting sessions and the opportunity to meet with brands at FinCon Central are happening each day on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Each night there are different events for attendees to experience – the FinCon events are open to everyone, while some brands host invite-only events.

The conference is hosted at the Orlando World Center Marriott, which is just 1.5 miles from the Disney theme parks. I booked early, so I was able to use Marriott Bonvoy points to book my room (and get the 5th night free!). Even if you missed out on that, FinCon negotiated a discounted rate for all attendees. Although some people are staying at other properties and Airbnb locations nearby.

Panel: How freelancing allows you to focus on family

I can’t wait to be a part of this panel to discuss how freelancing has benefited my family and allowed me to be there for the most important parts of their lives. It is an honor to be on the panel with so many distinguished and successful freelance writers. We’re scheduled to speak on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 4 pm (Eastern). So mark down the day and time on your calendars if you’re interested in learning how freelancing can create more balance in your life.

Please visit their sites to learn more about their stories and the services that they provide:

Some of the questions that we’ll cover include:

  • How does freelancing help you show up for the rest of your life/tend to other important matters while you still earn a solid living?
  • Would you be able to have the same lifestyle if you worked a traditional job?
  • What’s the biggest challenge you’ve encountered while freelancing —and how did you overcome it/how are you dealing with it?
  • Do you think anyone can go freelance? Why or why not?
  • What would you say to someone who wanted to try freelancing but was afraid of income instability, loss of health insurance, having to market themselves, etc.?

The Bald Thoughts

I owe FinCon and the people that I’ve met through the conference for my career as a freelance writer. Although I’ve been blogging for 10 years, I never realized that you can make a lucrative career out of writing online until I met some amazing people at FinCon, CardCon, and other industry conferences. If you’re in the Orlando area, join us at FinCon 2022 to meet your favorite personal finance creators and learn from the best. And it would be awesome to see you in the audience for our panel discussion.
